Yeah, but unlike Walthers... I'd say just wait a year or so and the other paint scheme should probably come along.

Atlas' track record so far with pre-1982 UP? They have been very sparing with the yellow/gray. GP9s, for instance - 2005, 2008 and 2016, each in different lettering. GP30 and 35? A single run each since 2000. They were more liberal with the SD24s, but OTOH there weren't that many roads that had 'em.

I suspect I'll get a trio of the new run, anyway, and patch.

Ed:  Blowing up the Atlas PDF, the car says "NEW 8-80".  If this is correct, it should be good for most of the 80s.  Assuming KCS didn't turn around and sell/repaint them shortly after buying them...

The first thing I looked at was the consolidated stencil.  It's the 1974 style 2-panel, which itself was a good sign.  The BN car has the same style, but the "CAPY" line is gone, so it's a later car.  Looking it up, it's too modern for me, even if I added the CAPY.  But, the Canadian Freight Car Gallery had an interesting picture of one of the BN cars.  Ever see a car with BOTH 2-panel and 3-panel COTS?

@Philip H what's the history of these guys? Good for the 80s?

Most were new 1979-1980 so you can get a fair brace of them if you want.

They are dirtier now, but still in original paint:

What's the skinny on the Difco car's era?

Should be. The COTS is the type used in the late 70's to very early 80's.

The N&W cars were built in 1986.

BTW, the Difcos and the Russell Plows as well as the Greenville hoppers are in stock at MBK

I think that Atlas has found a pre-order system I can live with-
1) get stock from Nov catalog on dealer shelves by Sept. 4
2) release Nov. catalog on Sept. 5
3) require pre-orders by Dec 12

I predict a low pre-order count.  Hopefully, they take actual sales into account when determining if another run is in order.  :D

Do you not realize those pre-orders were due last year, or are or you just completely joking?

(Not sure how Mark remembers these threads exist.  Maybe he searches for it on principle?)

I guess I was too subtle.

Just a few Thrall 4750's for me. Mostly a very uninspiring catalog for me. Been that way all summer from all of the manufacturer's.
