Peteski, I did get the original sarcasm, but I posted my reply as I did because there are so many people who do take those issues so seriously that it is currently a big political debate.  Which is not what TRW is about.

However, "fighting global warming" could benefit greatly from increased use of trains, especially auto-trains.  Being able to pack your car full of vacation toys and then have a train take it and you to your vacation destination saves on more than the fuel to get all that stuff from here to there.  It also saves on the amount of stuff that gets produced, which production also causes CO2 emissions, plus waste.  A big issue now is to avoid so much "single-use" stuff, which is what the hotel industry produces in huge volumes so that guests can have "new" stuff not already used by previous guests.  Airlines are restricting so much in the way of personal belongings, for reasons of safety, weight and space, that the advice is getting to be "leave it home and buy it there."  And, that creates a lot of waste, because you also need to leave there what you bought there.

Trains to the rescue (I hope)!

Ship your baggage ahead both ways.
