A cryin' shame. Those Cascade Talgo sets are by far the nicest we have enjoyed in all of our rail travels. Too bad a case of rampant stupidity has condemned them. :(

NTSB: systematic failure of operator/human error caused the crash

also the NTSB: so you need to get rid of those Talgo sets because we don't understand how modern passenger rolling stock works

Living nearby and traveling under the overpass twice a day, (NB and SB), the striking thing to me was despite the inspections that identified potential locations that should be noted, the lone 30 MPH curve upon an overpass approach was largely ignored.
I don't really believe the lack of PTC was the issue, though it clearly has benefits, as much as the Engineers lack of experience on the line, particularly at the time of day the accident occurred.

Sad.

It was pointed out on a Twitter thread that the Amtubes are far more prone to telescoping, as evidenced by various recent Amtrak wrecks.

The issue with the Talgos according to the NTSB is the disconnecting and/or breaking drawbars in addition to the projectile wheel sets.   :?
