Not so happy with the GTEL color.

Forgive me if this has already been covered.

Is it just me, or are the Scale Trains UP GTELs just a bit too faded. Seems to me they could use just a bit more yellowish-ness. Of course, that is what weathering is for...

Hmm... I don't notice them as being that far "off". I'll look again this evening.

Beacon? What beacon? :?

I talked to Scaletrains personally and they used Tru-color paints. I used the same paint and the engines i paint are brighter yellow then the Scaletrains turbine i have. I also find the gray out of the bottle is darker too. They said i was doing something wrong.  Maybe a different color primer. However i tried gray and white primer and haven't noticed any difference in the yellow or harbor mist gray.

I was going to post he same thing - Scale Train's colors do not match the Tru-Scale colors.  The difference is slight on yellow, but more pronounced on gray.  I was going to post some photos (assuming they capture the mismatch) one of these days. So much for Tru-Color match. . .  :|

If you look at the fine print, do they say that they actually use Tru-Color paint, or that it is color matched to Tru-Color paint?  There is a big difference.

I'll have to get the box out to see exactly what it says but I recall them saying they use tru-color so that if any damage happens then,  we the buyer knows what paint is used so we can do touch ups.

If that really is the case then their batch of Tru-Color paint is mixed differently than the paint sold to consumers. :(

I thought they recently stated the UP colors they used were incorrect and moving forward they were going to use updated colors. IIRC they said the color on the GTEL is correct for the era but not for the modern locos

Oh great !  So is one to assume that the bottled paints sold by Tru-Color are those more modern UP colors?  :|
Where exactly did you see that statement from Scale Trains?

I can't remember if it was in print or in a video. I know the statement was in response to the gevos being the wrong color compared to IMRC HO gevos, which were considered a closer match than scale trains. There isn't much on their site about tru color paint but the new HO gevos specifically state what paint they match and all other mentions of matching paint say "matched to tru color paint when available"
I only saw this statement on UP livery HO locos though

Still, "matched to" rather than using the actual paint means that there could be mistakes (especially if this is done overseas).

In the 80's I was using Floquil and it looked pretty good. I stepped away fro 30 years and now all i can get is Tru-color.   I have a mixed bag of different colors. Concor from the 70-80's passenger  vs. Kato now days. Kato is very bright and more of an orange mixed in there.  They all fad as well out on the road as soon as they left the shop.
Even the aircraft carrier i was on did. They start paing one end and by the time they got to the other end it was fading.
