I completely agree that the taper is so slight that it hardly shows in N Scale. I just wanted to see if I could do it ---that, and every light pole I ever see in real life seems to be tapered, so I wanted to see if it would look better. Since the difference is so slight, I would not do it again.
But it was great fun solving the challenges.
The other lights on that building are also 0402 LEDs inside either NGineering lamp reflectors OR... 2.5mm or 3mm metal "bead caps" (you can find these at on-line craft stores...the brick and mortar ones like Joanne's Fabrics don't carry them that small).
For those, I bent .032" stainless tubing into a gooseneck shape after threading the LED wires through it. I machined an exact .032" groove around a piece of steel rod so I could place the tubing in the groove and bend it around the rod without the tube collapsing.
