@peteski , see how the wires come out the bottom of the car? My original plan was to put a lithium coin cell and a holder from Digikey up on the shelf above the obs area of the car and put a touch button outside, under the floor. I think that is my plan now that the latching reed switch costs are unbearable. 

Also in the works are 17 PRR P70 coaches, so this has to be done at a reasonable cost.

I know how much you despise a battery operated lighting system, but the are no powered, proto-correct trucks for this car and I don't want to devise any.

If you use metal wheelsets with one wheel insulated and install metal wipers rubbing on the axles (from Streamlined BackShop), you can easily create power picking up trucks. SBS sells a large variety of electrical wipers in multiple configurations.  SO each truck will only pick  up from one rail, but with a deflicker circuit that would be acceptable.

Yeah. I’ve used the SBS4DCC wheel back wipers on my sound cars with metal wheels that are insulated from each other.  Works great. That way each truck picks up from both rails.

That's even better, but it also adds more friction than a wiper rubbing on the axle.  Still, a valid ideal.

I just realized that I have not mentioned that I was very impressed with John's modeling here - especially the realistic interior - very cool!

I saw those and pointed @bbussey to them as he was looking for a batch.  I assumed he swept them up.

The shipping vig was too rich for my blood, otherwise I would have cleaned them out.  Rapido will be restocking within the next few months, I'll get some then.

Did you contact Mike Fifer to inquire if he might be able to adjust the shipping charge?
Nine of those lighting kits should be able to ship as cheaply as one in a USPS small flat rate box, for example.

I sent two email queries regarding that and another matter.  They answered the latter but not the former.  It's not a critical acquisition for me at this time, especially when I can simply wait a few months and get what I require later at less expense.

Finally finished the car, with exception of road numbers (I cant find 7507 and I will not piece it).

First image shows the 3V button battery holder I was waiting for, connected to the wires:


Next pic shows the fine (6mm L X 4mm H x 2mm T) tiny slide switch I found at one of @peteski 's places, Electronic Goldmine and the switched wire:
