I asked someone who works with Autodesk at work and knows people who work right at Autodesk and even he couldn't tell me what happens after the trial, or after the year after that. Just sound too much like a Google thing where they can change their mind at any time.

I use ProEngineer but found Freecad interesting:

Played with the program a bit and found it robust.

Have played with most on the list but liked Freecad because it didn't have any hinky trial or wondering how long the use period was.

Anything to do with Autodesk is always a ripoff.

So my free trial for Fusion 360 was down to 2 days so I went to check out the free licensing options.  There are three free options; educational, non-commercial, and commercial under 100,000 revenue.  I went for the last one so if I ever wanted to sell something, it would be fully legit.  They ask for a company name and website.  I gave my CGW Modeler name and site which aren't official in any sort of corporate way but it went through fine.

I'm good for a year and then from what I gather, you just go through the same process again.

I fired up my Fusion 360 subscription after a year of idle and it works.  But it also says "Fusion 360 will require macOS 10.12 or higher after the January 2019 update."
