Gotta love Penn Central!  Real classy.  It probably took all 3 FL9s to get those 3 passenger cars to their destination.

Removing metal would be the next step, but the split frame holds the trucks in place, so cutting out the center section would involve figuring how to secure the end sections of the frame to hold the trucks.  I guess the frames could also be left full length, but drilled out to remove material. 

Ultimately, 2 powered locos are probably a better solution.

You could also replicate the geometry and print a fake chassis in plastic to just hold the snaps of the trucks and fuel tank piece which would be a lot lighter than the split frame metal.

Yet another example of why I have to admire folks like Jason Shron. They create a wonderful replica then it gets modified to do what it was never intended for and the lead line for the topic questions it's pulling power.  :facepalm:

Yet, I disapprove of his failure to provide any follow-up with specific technical details regarding his condemnation of certain MRC power packs.
