Open source models here?

Is there any interest in creating an open-source directory of 3D models? I see this as analogous to software development, in that someone can post a file (say, to the gallery  ) and it can be improved upon by others.

I understand these files are >25MB.  I can investigate the costs to RW if there is consensus to move forward.

With sites like Thingiverse and MyMiniFactory, I don't think you need to foot the bill to host them here.  Perhaps just a sticky thread with links to the various 'Railwire Picks' models from across the net?

Except that then you are dependent on 3rd party hosting.  What happens when they decide to pull a Photobucket or Flickr and just kill your data?

That can happen to anyone at any time. If it saves TRW some $ to simply link to other sites, then all the better.

As long as the hosting company doesn't have a file repository clause, the space shouldn't be an issue. The file limit is small, and I would also like to see a 2d section for buildings simular to the SSS....but all set up for laser or Cricut machines...

I have no ability to create 3d models, but would love to be able to make the stuff that is out there.

I know Onedrive has a link/share feature. Dropbox?
