Bash a new sill on 40' PS1

I need to change this sill

Looks like the sill you want is added to the outside of the car (proud of the lower frame) and under the track for the door.  Etching would be the easiest but fairly expensive and styrene would be the cheapest IMHO.

Since it slightly overlaps the straight sill, etch it and the door rail. Include tabs in the design to attach it to the underside of the car, but you'll have to cut/file the existing casting to place the tabs.

Not by much though; less than an inch probably.

Given the demographic on this forum, it's likely that this project is in N scale and that overlap would be entirely unnoticeable. Even in HO it wouldn't really stand out.

I say just glue it to the bottom of the sill after cutting the existing "tabs" off flush.

Ok so simply cut off the PS1 tabs and kept the door track. Simply eyeballed a piece to glue on and filed it until I was happy. Looking at white plastic up to the car body I was unsure.

So I just brush painted it.
Size wize I think it is there. It will definitely need to be cut on some kind of tool as doing it by hand will not produce the straight smooth edge you need to mate up right. If I was only doing one or two I might be incluned to fill and file smooth but that is probably not going to work for all that I want.

I looked at etching and as neat as it seems to be and probably a doable method that may be a stretch for me right now.

John, sitting there looking down on it, it looks ok.  But the pictures and real car do show you are correct. I guess it is that proportion thing that gives us 6 inch board gaps and 3 inch rivets.

If it was really important to me -- I would find a model that has the similar sill, and use it to make a pattern from, then you could either cast it, or cut others .. even better if you had a cutter or laser ..  you can also try to shave some of this down a bit to improve the appearance ... again, rule 1 applies ... if you are happy with it -- :)

ohhhh a cutter.... this does seem like something a Silhouette could do. Wife was talking about getting one of those the other day. Hmmmmm....
