Loksound 73100 install in newer Kato sd45

On this one I used the narrow select direct 73100 decoder unlike my last one which used the 73800 placed in the fuel tank.
Frame mods were pretty easy, filing down the rear shelf, notching above the rear flywheel, narrowing the decoder slot pieces so they olny touch the frame pads at front and to give the needed width at rear. I also filed down the front recess a bit to give more clearance under the decoder.
Speaker is a soberton 16x9mm in a roll your own enclosure 5mm tall and with an additional 1mm stand-off glued to the front end to prevent decoder touching the speaker diaphragm which is mounted up.
Four 100uF x 20v poly tantalum caps mounted in a block like a sideways L shape to fit the space ahead of the speaker.
I’ll post the modifications sequence photos separately next due to file size limitations.
Hope someone finds this useful.

Steve,

Nice job on the install and the sound is great. I have 2 or 3 of the older KATO SD45's that I want to decoderize with sound. By chance did you make some documentation of your 73800 in fuel tank install ? That is the way I am considering doing mine.

Thanks,
Carl
