Today, I had the chance to talk to one of my friends who works in Intermountain's R&D, and mentioned the concern about schedules and details (like riding too high), and he basically said we know, we watch this thread.

I suspect that a few manufacturers monitor a lot of them .. while some people in the past have claimed that forums are a "rounding error" and not representative of the modeling world at large, social media is a bigger factor today than 5 years ago .. you can't ignore it .. and as you see online these days, "fake news" can take on a life of it's own pretty quickly ..

No ETA listed, but the fact that HOGTrainz has the pre-order rather than BLWNscale means that Pete isn't expecting them before July 2018 even though IM says "Spring".  I think that's a pretty good assumption.

I get the feeling N scale will be run into the ground by all of this redundancy. It's not like they're covered wagons, which were owned by lots and lots of railroads.

No, but they ARE owned by pretty much all of the current big railroads.

Look at the SD70 and its variants. There have been close to 6000 of them made over 26 years. And the various T4 versions keep going.
There are more F units, by about a 1/3 (ie, 2000 more) over 21 years.

These things are going to be around for a long time and are likely going to be as common as F units once were.
