Started a new layout in a 10’ x 10’ spare bedroom in our new house.
The basic idea is a single track main loop with a yard and a branch line.
First I took up the carpet and put down a laminate floor.
Baseboards are constructed in 5’ sections from salvaged offcuts (free) 2x4’s and 1/2” OSB material's obtained from all the new home building work going on around me with permission from the building superintendent. 
Track will be Kato unitrack salvaged from my last garage layout.

How did you get the benchwork (and everything else) to stay on the walls like that?

Nothing is fixed to the walls.  Each section has two legs at one end and is bolted to its mating section at the opposite end. With the exception of that left side section over the dresser, that also has the short leg resting on the dresser at its opposite end.  All the legs are fitted with leveling feet, the type that screw in and out.
The backdrop is supported by 2x4’s screwed into the back of the sections frame.

Finished the track wiring and mounted the turnout switches.  Also started wiring up the turnout switches.  Had to extend the wires on a number of turnouts using twin 22 gauge red/black wire, solder and heat shrink tube.

It's always nice to get some free wood. Looks awesome so far!!

Finally got all the track secured down with blobs of Dollar store caulk, track aligned and secured with hot glue on the lift up bridge and hooked up the dcc system wiring.

Next job, run a test train and finesse trackage as needed.
