Lokpilot micro and micro direct virtual sound

Hey Guys,
I am going nuts trying to understand what exactly I need to set in way of cvs on the lokpilot micro direct to turn on the virtual sound start delay option using F8 function key.
I intend to consist a loco with a lokpilot micro direct to a loksound micro select loco. I want the lokpilot loco to react to the F8 key, when in consist, to switch on the virtual sound  start delay at same time as as the loksound loco starts up its engine.
I don't have a lokprogrammer, ---yet.
Could one of you great guys spell this out step by step for a dcc dunce such as myself.
Many thanks.

Steve

Do you have Decoder Pro (JMRI)?  If so, that is really all you need.  CV 252 implements the delay (a value of 45 equates to the 3 second delay)

This is the "Advanced" tab for the LokPilot Micro in DecoderPro.  Note the setting in the lower right for Startup Delay.

This is the "Function Map" tab for the decoder.  See the lines for F8.  That is the flag that needs setting to enable the delay (Virtual Drive Sound)

What you want to do is open up JMRI, do a "read all sheets" on the decoder first (DO NOT ASSUME THE DEFAULT SETTINGS ARE WHAT IS IN YOUR DECODER). Then, check the entries I have shown.

If you also have Full Throttle implemented in the LokSound, add the Drive Hold and Dynamic Brake logical functions to the same function buttons as in your LokSound, as well.

Hi Rick,
Many many thanks for taking the time to make a perfect answer with screen shots :D
How did you know I am a pictorial type of learner? LOL.
Yes I do have JMRI, but have not had it long and still getting used to it and am somewhat cautious  :scared: with more complex CV changing and have never "function mapped" before.

Thanks again and happy holidays to you and all

I'm attempting a similar setup today with my 2 CF7's.  One is a Micro Select Loksound, the other is a LokPilot V4 Micro 54684.  I took them to my buddies house who has the LokProgrammer and we couldn't get the pilot to act like the sound decoder.  He was somewhat up against a time window to go pick up his son though.  I currently have JMRI reading the LokPilot and will check the function maps once it is finished.  I wonder thou too that I may have an issue because one motor is a scale and the other is one of the older fast models from Atlas.

You can do it in JMRI.
As both different motors I would suggest get them speed matched first then set up the virtual sound start delay in the lokpilot after. That’s what I did and it works great but dos take some time to set up.
If the lokpilot doesn’t work well it may need a firmware upgrade.

Still have some messing around to do, but here's where I'm at so far.  I have to go back into the JMRI and see if I have that Virtual Drive Sound setting, I might need an update there as well.

I should have checked beforehand, but I went ahead and downloaded newest version of JMRI.  Opened file back up, went into the mapping section and I'll be damned there's the Virtual Drive Sound button.  Turned it on, reset the layout and bang, they are almost spot on now.  Just need to change the speed table now on the LokPilot and we're good to go.

Yep, with the speed of new features being added to ESU decoders, one needs to keep their JMRI versions up to date, so that the decoder profiles reflect them. And that is also the cool thing about ESU, users can update the firmware on the decoders, so that they always reflect the new features. The Tesla of DCC decoders.
