I enjoyed the MRC Prodigy Advance for its simplicity. I was mildly interested in all the electronic gymnastics made possible with Digitrax and JMRI, but I knew I'd never live long enough to understand all of it. I also spent enough time in
@seusscaboose 's basement waiting for mysteries to be solved that I know it's not fool proof. (and I'm a much bigger fool than Eric!)
If I ever find myself building a larger than bite size layout again, I'll look into the NCE. Everyone I know who has one likes it a lot. The MRC still serves me well on my little switching layout, but I have to say its durability is lacking. Two of my three throttles went wonky on me within a couple of years, and I'm down to one that works reliably. Although it has been about 10 years...
I had Advance, so it reads back CVs on the program track, and lets me MU and reprogram on the main, which is all I'll ever need it to do. It looks like the ads for Advance2 are including an app to use your phone as a throttle, so it might be a good choice as well.
