The trains show well and look nice, but, to be truly authentic, WWII troop trains need a couple of things:  early WWII trains used coaches for the enlisted men with pullmans and dining cars for the officers; with the introduction of the troop cars, the coaches were dropped for the troop cars, but, the officers still travelled in pullmans and ate in dining cars on real china with real silver ware.  The em's were lucky to get C or K rations while in transit.  Remember RANK has it's privileges.

That is good to know. This will help me get the train more period correct.

For those wanting their own military train, MBK just stocked up on Abrams and Sherman’s.

All this talk about military trains, anyone interested in actual train consists?  They are not what you might think a train would be...

I have spent quite a bit of time over the years gathering whatever troop train consists I could find and I have compiled some of them below for folks to learn from.  While its easy to couple up some MT Troop cars on a train, a real military consist was quite different...  (Except as noted cars were all steel heavyweights.  Only NAMED Pullmans had air conditioning.)

While this train has no info on it it may have been cars from a prisoner transfer train returning to its origination.  This might explain not only its length but the cars themselves.  Coaches would likely be returned on whatever passenger train that could be found, with the coaches not being able to immediately being turned back due to the necessary processing of prisoners who likely were held on the cars, awaiting off-loading and confinement.
