Earlier this year I was sent to a test center in the city of Poznan in Poland where they were conducting fatigue testing on new passenger car truck frames. During some of the down time, we were able to explore the city a bit. Here is a sample of the fleet of streetcars which are all over the city.

Some of the oldest streetcars date back to the 50s:





There are 70s era cars:



And finally there are modern articulated trams:



This ancient car was converted into a cafe:



This narrow gauge steamer was standing guard in the parking lot at the test center:

I was amazed at the constant balance of ancient and modern throughout the city, which also extended into the test facility. Next to the giant computer controlled test stand, I swear I saw a multi-meter with nixie tube display! The food was amazing, the people were friendly, and the architecture throughout the city was spectacular. I cant wait to get back to Poland (though hopefully it will be in the summer next time, not February...)

Yes, these bring back some memories . . .
Poland is a very old country and (like most Europe) it is full of very nice old architecture, intermingled with modern buildings. Sounds like the-old-meets-the-new also applies to industrial equipment. 



When I lived in Poland (up til 1980) these were still the the most numerous trolleys cars in Poznan. They usually ran in sets of two or three (only the first was powered).  The above example probably dates to WW II time period. They were eventually modernized by adding automatic doors (but I still do remember some with the manual doors like the one in the photo).



Next, were articulated units similar to the one above (but with a single articulation).  Sometimes two were coupled together.



These were the newest ones while I lived there. IIRC, they arrived in the late '70s.  They were were super-modern looking. The very large tinted windows made riding in them lots of fun. The "new trolley" smell was also nice.    And the control stand behind the huge glasshouse looked like it came from a spaceship.

The other type are unfamiliar to me. The were introduced after I left Poland.   I also like the original cream/white livery better then the newer yellow/white.  It to me looks more elegant.

Poland is also full of vintage steam equipment, and lots of narrow gauge too.   When I visit next I'm planning on visiting http://www.thewolsztynexperience.org/home.php

CSX changed their locals schedule to run Sunday-Thursday, so I was able to catch D795 leaving Gettysburg, PA Sunday morning.  Found out on Wednesday, the Sunday-Thursday schedule has already been returned to Monday-Friday.

CSX changed their locals schedule to run Sunday-Thursday, so I was able to catch D795 leaving Gettysburg, PA Sunday morning.  Found out on Wednesday, the Sunday-Thursday schedule has already been returned to Monday-Friday.

They pulled that stunt in Baltimore for the local out of Curtis Bay switching NuStar Terminal. Went from M-F to Tu-Sat. Of course, the crews being used to having weekends off, are marking off on Sat so no crew/no train. Be interesting to see if/when sanity prevails and the old schedule is restored. Do we have HH to thank for this caper?

Thanks for sharing your link. Looked like good fun and the R & N vid was worth a look too.

You were lucky to get the DL from Scranton to Portland and back to Pocono in one day. In October it seemed to get away late from Scranton and then outlaw around Portland. Got the feeling relations between management and crews is not too flash at the moment.
