Atlas SD35 and SD7/9 chassis...do they interchange?

I have noticed that the friction fit tabs are different between new and old SD7/9 and between the SD35. I do know that the little tabs on the chassis above the brass contact strips are slightly differing as well, but otherwise it looks as though all shells can interchange among the Kato and Atlas classic SD7/9 and SD35. Does anyone know if the shells can be swapped?

I have two SD-9s on SD35 chassis .They fit great but the fuel tanks are a bit of a problem because of chassis differences.

FWIW, the SD9 chassis is wider IIRC  - it was designed in the Kato "fat hood" era.

On my SD7/9, I measure .394 near the shell nubs and .437 around the motor.

I can confirm that the Atlas / Kato SD9 chassis is wider than the newer Atlas / China one.  Consequently the Atlas / China SD9 shells do NOT fit the Atlas / Kato chassis
