Problem with wheels falling of Bachmann Locos

I have several Bachmann locos or trolleys that have been sitting around for a while. When I ran them, one or two of the wheels have fallen off. Has anyone had that problem? They are not the Spectrum series. Also happened with a couple of my Doodlebugs.

Are the axle tubes/gears white? Probably cracked axle tubes which hold the wheels. Since the gear is also part of that tube, it also cracks. They should have ran very poorly before the wheels fell off (even much worse than what you expect from Bachmann).
