A suggestion, put a knot in the power cable so it cannot be pulled loose accidentally, put the knot just inside the box and a small amount of slack to the board.

Greg

I was thinking the same about the cord being slowly yanked out over time.  Another method is to just put a zip tie on the right location of the cord if tying a knot is difficult to do.

Two questions:

Do you think there's enough room in there to add the NCE auto programming track module or does it need a bigger box?

DO you have any issues requiring a heat sink? I don't remember the paddle controller of my Power Cab getting warm, but better safe then sorry.

Cajonpass, my suggestion was for the 0P, the power cord entering the box.

Greg

Yes I know. The intent of my response was to thank those who responded to my question about the purpose of the box. I do appreciate people here being helpful to those of us less well versed in electronics.

I thought about that and I may tie a knot in the future. However, I did purposely drill the hole smaller so when the two parts of the enclosure are screwed together it is a tight fit around the cord.

NCE Power Cab is a very portable complete DCC system. But it has some loose bits which are not part of the handheld unit and which are designed for when the Power Cab is used in a permanent layout install.

This thread seems to show a neat way to put all the other unwieldy bits into a nice portable box, which makes it easy for this DCC system to be hooked up to the entire layout or taking it over to the workbench for testing locomotives. Or to take with you to a portable NTRAK club layout to assist your club buddies in programming or troubleshooting their DCC locos.

Yes this.  :D

The enclosure could fit the auto programing track module with a little of creative re-arranging. Or you could use the next larger enclosure for more working room. I have not noticed any heat issues as of yet.
