How Good Are Walthers "SceneMaster" Trees?

I need some trees for my future layout, but I don't want to make them myself. Does anyone have an opinion about Walthers SceneMaster trees like these:

I think they're fine... but like many ready-to-plant trees I'd consider doing a little work on the trunks prior to planting.

Most of these trees come through with trunks that appear too "plasticy" and too brown.  A little weathering of the trunk can go a long way to making these types of trees appear that much better.

Also I suggest mixing up the Walther's trees with those from the other suppliers like Bachmann, JTT and Woodland Scenics.  The contrast between the different trees will yield more realistic results.

Dee:  Yes and no.  One could use Bonsai trees on an N scale railroad, and many wouldn't be too tall, but they wouldn't look like a scale tree.  It would make in interesting layout, though, and if the household already had both, might also save a lot of space.

One other thing to keep in mind, when it comes to trees and the locations they inhabit. Make sure to work from pictures!
I can never say that enough.

Commercial stuff can work, but it has to be creatively combined to get realistic looking wooded areas.
