I'm looking for a '70/'71 Valiant to pair with the Duel truck. He sells a '70 Scamp, and I think I can live with that, but I did message him to see if he would do a Valiant.

No, I said "Ed's Law."

I must be dense, but I find the Shapeways site ridiculously awkward to navigate. After you find 1/160 trains, you still need to wade through many hundreds of (to me) useless items like the batmobile, soviet metro cars, Dutch bus stops, odd helicopters, etc. What am I missing, isn't there an easier way to find things?

Chris Broughton @cbroughton67 recently finished a couple of 1970s GM sedans that he turned into a pair of earrings for his daughter.  He took photos of the finished models pre-earrings.  He may still have photos that he can post here.

They were 1967 Chevy Impala sedans that I picked-up on Shapeways. My stepdaughter is a huge fan of the show "Supernatural" on the CW network. The two main characters drive a '67 Impala sedan, so now you know the rest of the story...

These are photos I took before turning them into earrings.

Has anyone tried using something like a chrome paint for windows to 'reflect' the surroundings?  Or just cutting the windows out and leaving them open?

WOW!  He's got a lot of cars and pickup trucks that are perfect for my 10 year layout era (1947-1956) considering that 1957 models started selling in the previous year.  I also found my 1994-1999 Chev Suburban, properly configured without the stock roof rack which I'm gonna hafta get to place in my in-progress shots.  Bought mine brand-new with 6.3 miles on the odometer...now it's got 374,000 miles and still running strong, although the clear coat started peeling off this Spring  :(

I'll be starting with the '55 Chevy Belair, and '48-'52 Ford pickup in FED to see how clean they are and what the best treatment for the windows might be...

As prolific as this guy is, I would suspect that if what you want isn't there now, it won't be long before it shows up.

Cheerio!

Chrome ends up looking awful. Real windshields never reflect lights like a mirror and even with the finest Alclad paint, it never comes out truly reflective, just very bright silver.

I have been using dark grays with gloss coats for years with good results.

As for cutting out windows... FXD is just too brittle for that type of work, and no matter how careful you are, the windows will never look as good as a properly formed solid casting.

Here is a 1951 Pontiac Chieftain from Rapidpro. It included the cool windshield visor and the spare wheel enclosure. These cars are very well done.

So I'm not the only one who bought up those movie trucks in bulk.

I have 3 mid 90's GMC work truck almost complete and painted. Pretty happy with the results so far. Should be posted on this weekend's photo thread, along with the E8s in green.

It feels good to be modeling again.
