BLMA products are GREAT.

BUT I hate the fact that most of their cars are modern, i.e. useless for my preferred modeling timeline. There are soooo many covered hoppers and boxcars from the 60s that are NOT available - or only as stand-ins.

Why doesn't anybody focus on that period? Alas.

Javier.

For those of you looking for "when's the earliest" for this tooling, I *think* the answer is CEFX 75400-75599, a series of 200 cars built August to November of 1999 for CIT Group/Capital Finance.
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=67368 from 2004.

Hopefully BLMA will do these (sans conspic stripes) in a later run.   The CEFX cars in this release could be good stand ins if the logo was removed.  And the constripes.  (and of course optionally renumber although the risk-reward on that wouldn't probably be worth it.)

I'll try to do a workup on these with photo bingos and more info but it will be awhile so someone else may want to jump in.

I guess that depends on your definition of modern, but in fairness to Craig, half of his N releases are 1974 or earlier, including 2 60's era hoppers:

ACF 70-ton gon, 1948
GSC 60' flat car, 1956
GA Dri-Flo hopper, 1959
PS-4000 covered hopper, 1962
F89-J flat car, 1966
Bx-166 62' box car, 1974
NS Top-Gon, 1991
Trinity 53' spine car, ~1995
Trinity PD 5660, 1999
Trinity 64' reefer, 2003
Trinity 31K tanker, 2012

I wish he didn't do so much old stuff! ;)

Too new for me, but I'm happy for those of you who can use this covered hopper.  Kudos to BLMA, and I hope they sell the heck out of them, so that the profit from this project can support the offering of BLMA's twelfth body style in N scale (1970s or early '80s model, please).   ;)

I'm in for a TILX one. Its a bit of a stretch in my 1998 set layout, but I made the same exception for the Acela. Now all we need is a PD5000.

I'm a sucker for generic grey hoppers (and black tankers), so I'll be in for several.   Craig's last two releases suit me just fine.

Well, I sure got the length wrong, as these cars are 66'.

Sooo... is it possible that the tender logos are centered and you just miscalculated?   :ashat:

LOL.  In my defence, I was the first to admit that I got it wrong.   ;)

Well if you look at the age of Craig. The cars are contemporary. I know he produced flats , gons and hoppers from the 60/70's.

I'm buying some modern cars for my son, but I don't think I've seen these on the Joint Line.

BTW,  what's the point of a guessing game when the reveal picture isn't the same as the one you're guessing from???

I know the thread is 9 months old, but the BLMA blog says these are arriving in May. I'm pretty excited to get some on the layout. My Flour Mill needs cars! Between these and the brass detail kits daniel_leavitt2000 is making for the Walthers PD hoppers, it should be a good year for flour modelers.
