Need help identifying GSC Well Car load

Someone posted this 1974 photo in the Freight Car Enthusiasts group on Facebook last night.  Does anyone recognize the load, and where specs may be available?  Some people on the forum have postulated that it is a dual-input reduction gear that would be used for a ship.

I have no idea but it looks like some sort of quad-V engine. If something like that even exists. Or a V-configuration  engine with DOHC on each cylinder bank.  It might be for a ship.

It's tagged as "something Critical Equipment" so figure that out and it's a start. It also doesn't look like a ship engine - at least not from an oceanographic or fishing vessel.  My initial reaction was some kind of milling machine.

Not an engine, a dual input reduction gear housing.  The propeller would attach to the lower outlet.  Someone familiar with navel vessels posted that in the FB thread.
