Kato GS-4. Is the Freedom Train a later model so DCC friendly?

Just acquired an N scale Kato Freedom Train GS-4 today. I had to fit plastic shims to my other two for safe DCC operation, but I know the later ones are OK. Before I fry a decoder, does anyone know if the Freedom Train ones are the later ones or not?
Cheers, Bob.

Yes, per Kato it is DCC friendly. BUT I don't trust any of the GS-4's. The shim kit is a laugh!
I hard wire all of the GS-4's I work on. Isolate the motor 100 % by running wires from the decoder to the motor.
