A Question About Fox Valley Models Metal Wheels

I have a bunch of Intermountain trucks with Intermountain plastic wheels. I'd like to replace them with Fox Valley Models metal wheels. Looking at the MB Klein web pages, I see that the .553" axles are made for Intermountain trucks. Fine.

What confuses me is that the Intermountain plastic wheels (supposedly .553" axles) roll fine in Micro-Trains trucks, which take the shorter .540" axles. How? If that's right, then .553" axles won't turn (at all, or well) in the Intermountain trucks - too long.

What am I missing?

I measured .548 length on the intermountain wheel sets. I installed an IM set into a new MT truck and it turned but it was pretty stiff.

Thanks! Fortunately, I solved the mystery I presented earlier. It seems I had some Micro-Trains trucks mixed in with the Intermountain trucks, and when I removed the wheels in the trucks I thought were Intermountain trucks, the wheel axles were really .540" instead of the .553" axles I thought they were. So they turned fine in replacement Micro-Trains trucks, thus confusing me.

Ah, if all my problems could be solved with an "Aha!" moment.
