+1  Looks like Wikipedia.

Kato must have just copied and pasted from Wikipedia, as they have the same verbiage.

Some roads had problems, but they ran well on the Empire Builder.  I could count on meeting the train on the way home from work nearly every morning in the mid 70s, right on time, after running from Chicago to Pasco, WA.  About the only time it was late was in the winter, when the Midwest had severe weather, or an avalanche on Marias Pass.

My only "complaint" is that I'll have to renumber mine.  Havre got the 530-539 from the first batch, and I need the early scheme, available only in 504 and 505, which went to the Santa Fe.  But that's what decals are for.

Yay!
This is a priority loco that I also have been longing for...  Anyone want to buy a bunch of Lima shells that have been half converted and sitting around for decades?
Glad Kato has a pretty good reputation so as not to bail on this announcement... ahem.
FWIW Kato, I'm in for a double header to pull my 78' eastbound Coast Starlight, and another set for the westbound move... and I'm in for the aforementioned assorted Ph I set of cars (mixed skirting please).

Notice the "Type 1" part. It sounds like they might be doing the other nose variant down the road.

LOL, great Polish minds think alike. I posted this  yesterday in the other SDP40F thread.

BTW, why do we have 2 parallel threads on this?   :RUEffinKiddingMe: It would really make sense to merge these 2 threads.

We are basically a collection of N scale modeling Talking Heads. Why would we want to start making sense? :D

I see what you did there!  :D
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a large train layout in the basement...  ;)

I think I will wait until Sunday evening and head into the office.  Then I will view the split screens to compare this offering with the posts on earlier releases.   :o

Could be another solid Kato winner.  Father grabbed a picture of a pair of these beasts on a Santa Fe style bi level train when we visited San Juan Capistrano.  It was a sight.

Thank you KATO  :)

Best,

Oh, come on, guys.  Don't be so negative.  The SDP40F still looks good at a forty-five degree list to port and on the shoofly bypassing the wreck.

Rich,

Technically, the SDP40s were on their way out the door by the time of my era (1983-86), but I would have no hesitation using them in the place of the P30CHs, which I doubt we'll ever see in N scale.

"the old Seaboard station"

It was common in the early 7os to see a pair of SCL sleepers in the Empire Builder.  Seldom one, never three, almost always a pair.  They showed up at random, mixed in with the usual GN and UP, and less common NP, CB&Q and ATSF.  I wonder if any of the Northwest sleepers were seen in Deerfield Beach in the early years?
