I built mine.  Ripped 1x4's down, made door frame and insert plexiglass front, plywood back.  I might have $25 in it and most of that is the plexiglass.

I'm looking for one too. Here's what I would like:

1. Cherry wood (not some other wood stained "cherry"
2. N-gauge grooves in the shelves
3. Neutral or mirror back (not green, not red, not wood-grain)
4. Glass door/cover (not plastic).  I might be persuaded to compromise on this part.
5. Simple styling (so it blends well with many styles of furniture).

So far I haven't found all of these things in one case.
The cases from sfDisplay.com (Fifer seems to sell the same thing)  uses stained beechwood, and plastic in the door - otherwise it seems close.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

I have several cases from Hotchkiss Manufacturing.  I like their appearance. They use hardwood back and bottom and a curved acrylic cover.  The shelves are also clear acrylic.  Hotchkiss does not advertise anymore but they still make the cases to order.

:)On the shelves, I would recomend that you not put grooves in them for the trains wheels & would not use track. In both cases the grooves and/or track would create flat spots on the engines rubber traction tires and over a period of time depending on climate conditions the metal wheels may have a dissimilar metals reaction between metal wheels &the track.

I'll have to look up where I got them but I love these. (Just should have made the N gauge one for Reading RR.)
