P-B-L Liquid Flux

Recently I filled out an order of Neolube with a bottle of non-corrosive liquid flux from P-B-L. Tried it tonight and love it. It comes with a fine dispenser tube that allows precise placement and it doesn't seem to have that awful smoky smelly evaporation effect. Unfortunately, while I didn't spill the Neolube, I didn't quite tighten the cap on the flux bottle all the way and it leaked all over the bottle and my hands  Embarrassing...

Now the bottle is gooey and worse, so are my hands. Instructions on bottle suggest warm soapy water, but that doesn't seem to do much....what kind of liquid base cleaner would work on flux? I tried denatured alcohol and Goo Gone and now I smell of booze and oranges but my hands are still sticky ... My wife locked herself in the bedroom  :?
Help? Soon?

Dish-washing detergent? or maybe an industrial hand cleaner with an abrasive mixed in...

The amber color seems to indicate that is is a rosin dissolved in some liquid (probably alcohol).  Rosin is also sticky once the solvent evaporates.  Kind of like pine pitch.

From what I can read on the label in the picture of the bottle, there are instructions for removing it from the item being soldered (not the contact with skin instructions). What do they recommend removing it with?

You might simply need to clean your hands with alcohol several times.  Moisten a paper towel with alcohol (denatured should work ok) and wipe your hands with the paper towel. Then take another sheet of dry paper towel and dry your hands with it.  Repeat if needed.

I am surprised denatured alcohol didn't get that off.

I would try in order. boraxo. bonami, comet, acetone, ....

after those, if you have no fingerprints left...
use sticky finger for what God intended

making sure your favorite girl doesn't slip out of your hands.

luck.

Otto, for your hands,  I would try mineral spirits but not on the bottle. For the bottle, I would try some gasoline ok a rag. That should take it off without effecting the plastic.

Maybe Googone , but then you need to wash your hands with a rescue pad and various brands of detergent and Scope mouth wash .

Thanks guys, appreciate the responses! The GooGone and Formula 409 did the trick, I think I'm safe. The Atlas frog solder joint connections seem to be holding, too. Installed and soldered 12 Tortoises and assorted Switch 8's  and Switch It's today. Happy Presidents' Day. Goo is off. Life's good!

P-B-L, at p-b-l.com, specializes in finescale Sn3 products (locomotives, rolling stock, parts, etc.)  They also have a nice selection of solders, tools, etc.  (I have no connection with P-B-L.)
