This was one of the first models that I seriously attempted to weather. The photo dates from May 16, 2004:
I weathered models before this (even in elementary school in '87), but this was one of the first models where I remember thinking "I'm going to do this over and over again until I get good".
After I did this Schlitz reefer, I decided to get it out and clean it up and bring the weathering up to my current skill level. I also wanted to get more board variation, as suggested by
@wazzou . First I lightly sanded the sides and painted some grey, removing some of it to blend until the yellow. The intention here is to try to make it look like the old yellow paint has blistered and flaked off, and the old grey wood is now visible. I assume this happens on these old reefers because the roof overhang is enough to protect the upper half of the body.
