I've always wondered if I should be weathering my chocking and lading on flat car loads.  This photo shows it could go either way, as the inventory on this CB&Q dock in Chicago has a mix of fresh and weathered boards ready to be used for whatever that 10 ton crane is loading.

Thanks Mike; a timely post - was considering a similar question... thanks again.
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!
