Well is it N ? Al least 2 numbers 844 and 835-843 ? Maybe a greyhound 844 ? I hope it's not that chain of weak links that is the original GS-4 drive line . :scared: :x  . One thing I can guarantee is that it will be beautiful looking as is the GS-4 .

If you seen the original picture announcement says its pretty much a brand new design. And also a buddy asked in Roanoke about it and it was confirmed.

Also of the 3 new car toolings, I've read here that one was the generator car, and I was told by my buddy that one of the others was a Theater car and that was from the Kato rep as well. As for the third new tooling.

So that leave water bottles (available currently as 3D printing) and UPP 9336 as cars they don't produce for sure.

I've started to put together a list of cars that Kato has done before but its probably far from complete as N is my second scale but I fully intend to do a good sized UP business train. Additions to this list would be welcome.

Chris

Cars that wouldnt need new tooling:
72' Baggage Car - UPP 5714
85' Baggage Car - UPP 5769 & UPP 5779, as well as UPP 6334
85' 10-6 Sleeper - UPP 202
85' Club-Lounge Car - UPP 6203
85' Coach - UPP 5468, UPP 5486, UPP 5473, UPP 5480, UPP 5483
85' Diner - UPP 4808
85' Dome Coach - UPP 7015, UPP 7001, UPP 7011
85' Dome Diner - UPP 8008, UPP 8004

85' Dome Lounge would be one that would need modification as that was the tail car for the COLA set, but would be right for UPP 9004, UPP 9005, UPP 9009.

I just started this list in the last two weeks and haven't had a whole lot of time other than the above.

I talked to the KATO rep at Roanoke and he definately said they were tooling 3 new cars for the modern business train.  One was definately the generator car, and I'm 95% sure the second was the water tender.  My terrible memory was the third was a "business car", but it could have been a theater car.

The Art Lockman tool car (6334) has an extra window that would need to be added to the existing baggage car model for it to be correct -

Other currently unavailable cars I'd love to see -

Howard Fogg power/dorm/boiler -

Sherman Hill concessions car -

North Platte business car -

UPP 207 power/dorm/storage -

Combine those with Kato's existing cars and you've got yourself an excursion train (and all of my hack jobs can then go to eBay, lol) -

Cheers,
-Mark

Guess I never realized the extra window in Art Lockman, but other than that still usable car.

Honestly if they intend this train to complement 844. The two auxillary water tenders, boxcar (UPP 9336), Art Lockman, Howard Fogg, Reed Jackson, and Lynn Nystrom cars are a necessity for any steam pulled consist. As for end car, I really don't care what they use, but they could use their current business car with probably minor modifications for UPP 150 Sunset or a totally new car is fine with me as well.

My guess though, is they will keep it in the same type of box that Daylight, California Zephyr, City of Los Angeles comes in so that will probably limit the amount of cars. Guess they could always do add-on sets like they did for the Super Chief.

Definitely will be interesting to see what they offer.

North Platte kind of looks like the MTL/Lowell Smith business car.

Thanks! And if Kato really is doing a business/excursion train, you have me to thank for it. I predicted they would do this (just as soon as I finished making all of the cars for myself)  :D

It's not a bad foobie stand-in. The windows aren't right, but at least it doesn't have corrugated sides like the Kato car  :|

Or you can find a shop like I deal with that will take payments as you go, and let you just pre-order the stuff. Though of course I have been dealing with them for 4 years now and they know my word is pretty good.

Whenever Kato does announce it though, means I will have both N and HO versions of the heritage fleet on preorder.
