Not sure when this started with the Santa Fe. I just happen to see it in one of my Milwaukee passenger books in a photo caption. I know the regular mail trains carried all sorts of foreign road cars, especially New York Central plus other eastern connections. The Morning Hi also regularly had a GN baggage car.

Of course I love your models Bill. Do you happen to know when this service started in conjunction with the ATSF? I model an earlier era and it would be fun to include a Santa Fe car of some type on my orange trains.

I wonder which type of cars would be used in an earlier service.

I also have some DL&W cars that show up on pictures of Milwaukee trains among others.

Naturally I have a (large) collection of REA cars.

Multiple photos varying the focus point then using Helicon Focus software to combine them into one sharp photo.

I'm a BIG fan of including 'foreign cars' in regular consists. I can't speak for the Eastern or Mid-Western roads, but the Santa Fe saw a decent amount on foreign express cars in head end consists, as well as foreign sleepers, although they tended to protect their through sleeper service with their own equipment.
 The Santa Fe saw headend cars from the Erie, NYC, PRR, ACL, MoPac, Katy, Rock Island, B&O, and, of course REX, among others...interchanged at various points along their system, but mostly Chicago and Kansas City.
I'm partial to this particular series of  cars (built from PS supplied 'kits' in Santa Fe's Topeka shops-they were also delivered as 74' kits), so seeing them on foreign roads is pretty neat...
 This is a beautiful casting by Bill (I'm working on 3 for my ATSF 'Fast Mail'-and have already determined that I 'need' another!)...I'd love to discover that the Santa Fe saw, in head end consists, OTHER types of cars that Skytop Models produces!

Depending on your year , it is possible to include cars from the Pullman pool of cars. From time to time there were special moves of large groups of people for special events, sporting events etc. (or military moves) . There are always opportunities to include a pretty wide variety.
