Prototype Dimensions - GE Diesels?

Howdy, anyone have any info on the prototype dimensions (lenght & diameter) for the main air reservoirs on a GE diesel (Dash-9/AC44/ES44)?

Thanks,
Ed

No idea - but I would start with: same length and 5% wider than the Kato casting.  That detail would be high on my list for an upgrade.

I have a lot of dimensional information, but not all. A lot of the stuff I cannot get information on, I take from the best of the HO parts. Scale it up by 87.1 and then back down by 160. Seems to work just fine. Parts fit and look proportionally correct.

Yep, it just would be nice if they would agree: the Athearn part is 23.4 scale inches diameter, and the DW part is 20.5 scale inches.  Styrene tubing scales out to 20", which might end up looking a bit narrow, but still would be an improvement over the flat-ish looking Kato part (and the earlier release Kato version is even flatter). To get the full depth I might have to remove a bit of the frame.

This help?

Thanks Bob but the air tanks are on the other side... ;)

I'm thinking might be able to glean something from the Trainiax drawings, but IIRC they don't have a reference scale.

Thanks,
Ed

Another thought:  Any ideas on how to scratchbuild a Salem air filter?   IIRC I once saw something that had been made partly from a small screw, like a 00-80 or 00-90.   Seems like that would be pretty small to handle.
