MT Z905 coupler droop

Just held one in tweezers, with Optivisor on, And with other hand  saw a lot of up/down play. It's as if coupler box is too tall.
 If GF is here Thursday night, perhaps I can video this.
 Friday night is early to sleep to drive to show at Springfield.
 Will Homer and his family be there??? LOL

I don't have one to look at, but maybe you can file the outter most edges of the pilot hole so when the coupler is screwed in it will pull up further.

Chris, I found I had to do that with Bmann ALCo S-4. I might try to add a shim into coupler box. But we pay premium $ for Z905's, as MTL does not offer them in bulk. To have to do this is ludicrous.

So are you saying if you hold the coupler box perfectly level the coupler droops? I was talking about filing to get the box level.

I just got a small shipment of 905's just a few days ago and haven't looked at them yet.

Yes Chris. Lots of up/down play in coupler box while just holding it with fingers.

I just checked mine. I guess there is a tiny bit of play, but they don't droop. Perhaps the boxes were welded shut incorrectly? If it is wide spread you could let (the other) Joe know from MTL.

When on Atlas forum, I had some issues with brand new, out of package, 905's sticking to one side. Someone said maybe dies are getting worn?
 Perhaps I should contact Joe. Maybe I could shoot a video later.

Let me try gluing Z905's in with Goo, and then see if droop is so bad. Not much meat on NW-2 for a screw after post is cut off.
 Too much pressure from screw deforming coupler box.
 But I know some commented on this over at Trainboard.

Not sure about the Bmann NW-2, but for the Kato I just popped the stock coupler out of it's clip and then placed a MT905 in it's place with a few touches of CA at the corners of the box to keep it from shifting:



905 in place.



Stock on right, MT905 on left.

Has worked great for past 2 years no problem.
And no droop.

Besides a Mikado with a dummy front coupler that I haven't touched yet, that's the only Kato I own.
(Well, I have two NW-2's, but you know what I mean).

I would think that most Kato diesels have the same spring-loaded fixture front and back as the NW-2, but maybe the bigger ones have a different setup.

I've installed 905's on a Bmann Ten Wheeler as well:



Ream out the front a little and the 905 slides right in.



I think I ground down the little metal bumps on the tender but 905 fits in (maybe a little filing on the box sides) and CAs fine.
Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I think I had to grind down a little more of the metal so the coupler was at proper height (originally too low):



Then again, I swapped out the too-large stock tender for a Bmann USRA Short tender.
