A little late this week, but better now than never! Some railfanning of the local Santa Special I did before church on Sunday:

Not a big fan of out of the box walthers kits .. so I expanded the kit out .. it will make a good industry .. next will be weathering and details ..   color is flat sand .. from the camoflage paint rattle can .. what would you do to make this killer .. (other than starting over ) ;)

I like it! I did something very similar with that kit a couple of layouts ago -

Lighting is always a fun addition -

Cheers,

Early morning and it's time to get these reefers iced. Who's going to hop over and open the ice hatches?

Icing racks at the Woodbury yard.

Rick,

Nice job on the ice docks scene. Brings back some memories of younger days as I did summer work on the PFE ice dock and ice house in El Paso back in 1960 - 1962. I can tell you that those 300lb blocks of ice can really wear you out over an 8 hour shift. Great summer work for a would be jock both, financially and physically. By the end of summer I would be so pumped up. Oh, those were the "good old days". No cares, lots of cash, good car (1937 Nash 4 door turtle) and lots of beer.

Rick:  Nobody, they'll use bridge plates.  Which, if you can find a picture of the ones used by your favorite road, would make a nice detail for the platform.  It's a lot easier to slide the ice over than to carry it, and very hard to jump from one car to another with a big block of ice.

I agree. Unfortunately the N gauge kit did not include them. The box picture shows them, but they must have only been included in the HO version kit. The ice hatches should be open also but the last time I tried to open one it broke off and managed to get lost. My attempts at the necessary sawdust are also crude.

All things to eventually upgrade, but you have to take into account my current modeling state. It's been 3 years since we moved to a 55+ community (Be quiet Lee!) and my efforts so far have been to get the initial 3 phases of construction completed (all done, except for the 30th street station module and wiring the yard). Now it's time to go back and do the second round of scenery (i.e. finishing basic scenery) and eventually we will reach the 3rd round scenery phase (new, nice trees (MC & friends) and detailed sidewalks (Vollmer)). Lord willing, I'll get there. In the mean time, enjoy this special season. Merry Christmas everyone!

Got a nice addition to the collection today from old friend Paul Hutter of Cumberland.

Not an actual number board, but an amazing simulation!

Also got this neat little diorama featuring a favorite campsite...

I was wondering what she was doing rummaging around in my box of scenery materials...

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Rick:  Don't you hate it when a significant part of a model's detail, shown in the illustrations, isn't included?

In what ways were the bridge plates different among railroads?
