mrc n scale sound decorder p42

I followed the directions to install it. I am using nce power cab. It says can't read decoder some times light flash but nothing else. Any suggestions.

Ditch the MRC decoder. They are known for being shoddy and they tend to crap-out on Digitrax.
An MRC representative even refused to help a friend of mine with issues with a MRC sound-decoder when the rep asked what system he was using and he replied "Digitrax".
The MRC rep simply said "There's your issue." in a snotty tone and promptly walked away.
Your best bet is to replace it with a decoder from any other manufacture than MRC.

I would suggest trying soldering the motor tabs at the top to the board if you haven't already. I've had this problem on most of my decoders built off the P42, F40PH, F3, F7, etc.. style with the motor tabs being unable to make constant contact with the top of the board.
