I just got a call from Bill at intermountain and he has stated that they were evacuated from their building due to the flooding in Colorado.
When he left the building they had about a foot of water in the lower section and they have had 18 more inches since then.
They moved everything possible to the upper floors and think the water may be contained to the lower offices and machine shop area.
They will likely be able to assess the damage as soon as the police let them go back in.
As soon as they can the office will re-open if they have electric and phone lines.
They have no means of contact until further notice so please be patient.

I hope that things will get better soon for them.  It seems that all across the country areas that haven't seen flooding like this in nearly a Century is being experienced (including near me in N.C.) and I hope that their recovery is quick and not too costly.  They contribute a lot to N-scale and are a valued manufacturer even if they do have a few warts.

SUBJECT: SEPTEMBER 2013 FLOOD STATUS

THE RAIN HAS STOPPED!

On Wednesday night, September11th, the foothills of the central Colorado front range received between six and ten inches of rain in a twelve hour period.  As this water accumulated and flowed eastward it created a significant threat to Longmont and other communities on the east side of the mountains.

By midday Thursday the rivers and streams in the area had breached their banks and created a Federal disaster area.  The crest in Longmont occurred during the night on Thursday but additional rain caused the water to stay at flood level through Saturday.

In the Longmont area several homes were destroyed, hundreds were damaged, and many businesses were ravaged by the flood.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have suffered these devastating losses.   Thankfully, there has been no report of loss of life in Longmont.

By Monday the water receded and we were able to access the InterMountain facility and assess the damage.  Gratefully, it was minimal.  Our 11,500 square foot facility is on three levels.  8,500 square feet on the second and third levels were not compromised.  The lower level of 3,000 square feet had a maximum of about a foot of water at the highest level.  This area houses our machine shop and several offices.  All of our warehousing, sales activity, and administration is on “high ground”.

Inundation of the flood waters will cause us a minor inconvenience as we repair the damage but will not materially affect our operation in any way.  We have had a couple of days of sketchy phone service, our fax machine was down for three days, and shipping was held up for two business days.  Most of our employees missed two and a half days of work.  Other than that it has been business as usual.  Today, Tuesday, September 17th, we are back in business and forging ahead.

Our thanks go out to those of you who have contacted us and expressed concern.  We appreciate our many friends, customers, and associates across the world.  These relationships make it all worthwhile.

That is good news.  I'm relieved for IM.

I worked at a business that once took approximately three feet of water from Hurricane Floyd in September 1999.  It took us days to become operational again and weeks to get fully cleaned up with life starting to go back to normal.  I will never forget that smell; mud was everywhere.  Interestingly, the water receded as fast as it came up, and much of our inventory was piled against the front door where the water evacuated the building.  Ugh.

Yes, good news. My concern about them was refreshed with each TV report on the situation.

Anybody know if Colorado Railroad Museum is OK? They're not that far away from the big mess, plus they're basically in the alluvial plain right up against the foothills, next to the main channel of a large creek.

CRM is fine.  They're sufficiently above Clear Creek that they did not flood.  Soft ground was their biggest issue, but they still held a Thomas weekend in spite of the rain.

My part of the Springs was fine (I'm up at 6800 feet) but not so much for the south end by Ft Carson.

BTW, one of the TV reports last night showed a scene of a house in Longmont barely perched on the ledge of a big washout. In the backyard was what had to be a narrow gauge caboose. It fortunately was further back on the property and appeared unharmed.
