Kickstarter anyone?

I kind of stumbled on the Kickstarter site last week and was intrigued by the possibilities.  If you aren't familiar with it, it is a way to fund a project /video /music or just about anything by asking your potential market to fund it.
We all talk about how we want a particular model of whatever piques our fancy, but what if a company like Atlas set up a Kickstarter campaign to fund the development of the mythical PRR K1 in n -scale?  This could ensure that the company has the financial commitment from us to go ahead with production. 
Maybe this form of financing could be explored by smaller firms like NZT to build that modern garbage truck that I desire.

I am familiar with Kickstarter and have also pondered whether this could be applicable to some model railroad projects.

Thats a great idea, I too never thought about Kickstarter for model rr funding. It totally makes since to fund dies, licence fees, materials etc through a portal like Kickstarter. Alright let the ideal start flowing, who wants to Kickstart that modern Fuel Tank truck I want.
