Has any one stripped paint off FUD

I painted a couple of items with a cheap primer a couple of days ago and the paint has yet to set up. Does any one know what can be used to safely strip off the primer? I tried ELO but it made the part flimsy and I sense danger ahead. Thanks

I once soaked a telescoping forklift boom in 90% iso which turned the part squishy.. yes, squishy.

In the end, it got the paint off and the part dried solid again with no deformations or other ill effect.  Don't think I'd recommend it though.

Did you clean the part in any way before painting? There is a wax coating that needs to be removed prior to painting. I have heard of people not having the paint dry properly if the wax isn't cleaned off.

Not sure how sturdy your part is, but I've done this with a stiff toothbrush and some scouring powder.

You might try acetone. I believe FUD is resistant to it. Test it on something other than your finished model first to be sure.

I would try letting it soak in the same stuff ( forgot the name , can in basement ) that removes the wax for a few days . It may not dissolve the paint , ( most solutions don't or partially do , but releases the paint adhesion and it comes off as a skin ) , but it won't attack the fud and just may work .

Bestine may take quite a while; I've found it's not a very effective paint remover.

No I did not remove the wax first. I did the warm soapy water. I thought I read somewhere that for "smallish" type parts it wasn't really necessary to remove the wax. Plus I was in a hurry to get a coat of paint on cause I read UV breaks FUD down. I'll reach out to the Shapeway folks and see what they say before I start experimenting with some of the suggestions.

Looks like I could be in uncharted waters. Anyhow the part I soaked in  ELO has dried and is no longer "flimsy". I think FUD soaks up liquids.

That's what I've used in the past (with decent success). That said I didn't soak the models - just dipping and gentle scrubbing with an old toothbrush.

Update;

Shapeways wasn't much help nor was their forum. So I bite the bullet and soaked the part in acetone for about one hour..., the paint was soft, but didn't sluff off and I didn't scrub it because the smaller parts twisted and became distorted. Looks like I'll have to pony up for a new model.

I just used Chameleon Paint Stripper on Elmer FUD, and it didn't seem to have any ill effects.
