One of the advantages of the Noch version is the capacity.
I paint the area where I want to "plant" grass with a earth colored latex paint, then "plant" the grass.
The Noch version allows for a much larger amount of static grass to be applied that the tea strainer version IMHO.

In my experience, it is wise to practice off-layout to get the knack before doing on-layout application.  Practice means
developing to technique, but also determining the color, length and blend of static grass one likes to achieve their goal for a scene.
IT LOOK GREAT WHEN DONE WELL!

I used a pint sized metal salt shaker on my fly swatter. I did have to open up the holes bigger, but it works great.

Plus you can make your own tufts with these. Just put dots of glue on a metal sheet and zap it.

The large one is from Silflor and all the rest I made myself.

Jamie, nice design (and instructons)  Does that use a wall wart to power it?

Yep, just a cheap one from Radio Shack, Frys, etc. I can't comment on the power strength vs. the Noch or fly swatter type since I have not used either of those, but I am very careful not to touch the metal screen when mine is powered on. It makes the 6mm fibers stand up even from a few inches away. Jamie

Most excellent, and quite frugal, considering the cost of those tufts...!

Anybody tried this method (static charge) to make a white pine tree with short needles?  If one started with a twisted wire armature, it might be possible to do multiple angles like charging the grass from underneath the branch for those sagging spruce using chris333's salt shaker size head.

Just thinking about this from Ian's layout thread and all the thoughts about the unnatural look of the purchased trees.

Jamie I was also thinking that your design could use multiple container sizes at the business end if you had a threaded end using plumbing fittings on them and a mating thread PVC glued to the end.

Richie:  ???  Nothing if you've glued it down right.

And, yes, I do get the references.
