It is the cowl version of the GE 8-40.  CN, BCR had them, and maybe QNS&L as well.  Kaslo has been talking about making a shell for this model for some time, but nothing yet.  The CN units still operate.

Thanks.  We've seen alot of Canadian stuff down south since the CN-IC merger.  There's a GTW GP38-2 doing switching chores in baton Rouge now, alongside CN and IC deathstar locos.

What's a deathstar loco?

We used to see occasional IC power on the CN mainline here between Toronto and Montreal, but it is all CN these days.  The cowl units (Dash 8-40, SD50, SD60) are still pretty common on the line.

What's a deathstar loco?

Illinois Central's SD70 locomotives, they were black with a huge circular logo on the nose

Thanks, I see that now!  To carry the analogy, does this make CN a Jedi Knight

Full designation is C40-8CM.

Scott is correct that these are rostered by CN, BCOL and QNSL.

The BCOLs are still running around for CN too... caught one in West Virginia of all places a few months ago.

Saw a IC loco in BC in the fraser canyon in October, got a picture because we were stopped for road work.

Scott, an excuse for a bit of variety...and a decently quick build
