BNSF's one-and-only (thank goodness) "Vomit Bonnet" surprised us yesterday as the DPU on one of our daily coal drags. Sorry for the iPhone grab, as I said, it was a surprise:

Had the chance to get to the Royal Gorge outside Cañon City.  There's a 15" gauge train that goes out to an observation deck and back.


I'm really glad we got to do this because sadly, it's closing for good at the end of this month.

Had the chance for a photo field trip through Woodbury NJ. Single track remaining from the 3 track main in the early 1950s and the remants of their small yard.

All I know is that there is some rail on the flatcar behind it and it is sitting behind a "Conrail Woodbury Signal Dept" building in what remains of what was once a 4 track yard at Woodbuy connecting the Salem branch line. There are stacks of ties in the yard and some short rail pieces.

I'll ask on the Pennsylvania Reading Seashore Lines Historical Society and see if any of them can identify it.

Someone from the PRSLHS reported that it is a "Tie Handler. Used to place or remove ties from the right-of-way."

That would explain the piles of ties in the yard.

Keeping the Melbourne tram theme going.........

Originally entering service in December 1925,  W class tram no.381 was reclassified W2 in November 1931 and withdrawn in August 1986 after almost 61 years of service. Photographed sometime around Australia Day 1980.
