I'm a new arrival to Portland OR from North Carolina after military separation! I need to find a club/operating group so any advice is welcome!

So how many people are going to the Lynden show this year? Maybe we can use that as the asshats west meet.

Erik, go check out The Hobbysmith in Hollywood, that will get you started.
Lots of N-Scalers in Portland.

That's the best Idea I've seen here . . . wish I could be there . . . .

Lynden is a great little show, I have very fond memories of going there as a child.

Another good show stateside is the PNW RPM meet, back this year after a four year hiatus and in Seattle proper. I have a lot of reservations about prototype model meets but  I enjoyed attending  four previous shows put on by the PNW braintrust. They're good shows for making conections and there are some very nice models. One of the faults of RPM meets is that they tend to be HO std gauge ghettos. Nothing new there, but one way of changing that is for Z,N, TT, O, G, F, and "other" broad, std and narrow gaugers  to attend and display models/dioramas/layouts. Even modellers of logging railways should be encouraged to attend.

Details below from Brian Rutherford on the PNW RPM yahoo group:

We're Back!

Make plans to join us for the 2012 edition of Rails By The Bay!

After a multi-year hiatus, the Northwest RPM crew is happy to announce the
return of the Northwest RPM event Rails By The Bay. Many of you have asked when
we were planning to host another RPM event, and we're pleased to confirm that
we're back on schedule for 2012.

Planning is actively underway for our 2012 gathering, scheduled for Saturday,
October 13, 2012, in Seattle, WA. We've secured a location and are busy making
plans for clinics and special guests. See the website for more details and
updates as they develop. Hope to see you there!

Andrew -

Are you going to the RPM?  I went when it was held in Bremerton.  If you plan to be there, I can get your Ribbon from the NPRHA convention.

Downtown Vancouver now - not really modelling anything at present (no space and not much time)

Chilliwack, BC at the moment, about an hour east of Vancouver in the Fraser Valley... Working on a rather long and narrow layout to be a short line version of the CPR's Kettle Valley Railway.

When I'm not doing that, I obsessively collect Milwaukee Road and PGE/BCR rolling stock .

It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.

I will be at the Lynden show. Usually never miss it. Years past we have had our club layout, WSMRC open that weekend also but I don't think there is plans for that this year. Lynden is one of the four or five shows I try to get to each year here in the northwestern part of the state.
