Weekend Update 12/30/12

You mean someone SELLS them?  I cobbled them up out of sheet brass...not particularly happy with them but they look OK.

JNJ made them . I thought I had bought them but I didn't , probably because they didn't have the 3 perpendicular ribs on the outside top . I used to have the Utah Pacific ones in HO which have those ribs . I don't know if the JNJ detail parts can be gotten , I would buy them in a flash today . Need enough to do a dozen locos or so , I'll add my own ribs .

Still the weekend for me.  I finished up painting and decaling a couple of hoppers, now they need weathering.



Got a new airbrush for Christmas so a friend and I played with it doing a little weathering.


Also finished up a KCS caboose for a friend.

This is a part that could easily be done in RP. 

I know there's someone on Shapeways selling a porch mounted ditchlight fret.

RP? Probably not the best way. Needs to be thin, just like the sheet metal they are. JnJ had it mostly right, but probably could have spent about 5 more minutes on the artwork to dual-etch the ribs.

I solved the problem by buying an ABBA brace of BLI E8s. Still looking for the dummy B, which I now regret not buying to begin with.

After a 3-month hiatus from actually working on the railroad, I spent some time over the New Years' weekend putting in the industrial trackage at the last townsite on my layout.  It's wired up and has ground throws installed (although I'm not sure this is the permanent solution for throwing the turnouts), so all that's left to operate is some car cards and building mockups.  I'll hopefully spend several winter evenings working on structures for this area and getting some basic ground cover in place.

Seen helices built with threaded rods, but using threaded bolts for bridge base is brilliant!
(or, it is in concept until I mangle it in practice!)
...

+1.  This is the first time I've seen this, and therefore it is an innovation!

Amazingly starting to get some time to get some stuff done around here.

Installed MT couplers on a LL Mopac FA/FB set.
Put MT truck/coupler sets on seven tankers to get them ready to run.
Rummaged through the scrap wood tote and had enough to get benchwork screwed together and in the train room, preparing for my Arkansas Midland/Jacksonville branch "reboot".
Been a productive weekend/New Years Day.

Finally finished my first of several NKP 10-6 sleepers, City of Toledo. This is not the best shot to show detail, I'll post a better picture another time. It's another Rowa ATSF car that I stripped, painted, decaled, and re-trucked. Here it is carrying the markers on my train around my Christmas tree.
