Weathering rslaserkits' conversion decks

I bought a 4-car set of rslaserkits' conversion decks (MTL4500 flat car series) and after finishing the first car it looks very unprototypical (but better than the original MTL plastic look) to me so what are your tips to get it more prototypical weathered?

have a nice weekend

India ink diluted 1 table spoon to 1 pint of 70% Isopropyl alcohol.  mix well, brush on lightly.  repeat.

Various coats of Rail tie Brown, Depot Buff, and a little SP Lark Gray dry brushed worked well over a resin body. Nothing wrong with painting wood, then sanding and distressing it afterwards also.

here's the deck I did for the Atlas car. I used some alcohol stains I found at the local craft store ( espresso, rust and sunburst were the colors)
plus the std India ink and alcohol mix. I then used a small brush and hit each board till I liked the look. For a more weather beaten and worn deck hit it with some 60 or 80 grit sand paper to get some grain than use a shape knife and make some gouges from moving  stuff on the deck .
On the laser board insert for the MT deck used weathering powders  to get a weathered rusty look. I use Bragdons which do not need a ocer coat to hold in place.

hope this helps

W/S has a product line Tidy Track that includes some paint pens. I have not used them on these decks, but did use them on Blair Line wooden grade crossings with very satisfactory results.  They are similar to marking pens and the ink is low odor, but dries quickly.
