Removing track fixed with Dap Kwik Seal Adhesive

Can anyone provide any tips in removing track that has been put down with the Dap Kwik Seal Adhesive?  The stuff I used looks like this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Dap-Kwik-Seal-Kitchen-and-Bath-Adhesive-Caulk-Clear-5.5-oz/17243991

It works great to lay the track as it is tacky enough to hold it on curves but gives enough set time to make changes, but now I am hoping I can reuse the track/turnouts that has been installed.

Thanks,
Mike

I've just used a metal spatula with good success, but the flex track is usually bent in a curve and I have not kept it.  I avoid adhering my turnouts with more than a small dab or two to avoid any stress during this procedure.  The connecting track and ballast hold them in fine.

So the metal spatula is making quick work in removing the track, and so far my turnout loss rate is 0% while the flex rate is maybe 50%.  I can live with that.  However, when I pull it up I am getting the adhesive residue stuck on the ties and some attached cork/homosote.  Is there anything that will break up the adhesive thats left on the track without hurting the ties?

Not sure, but it looks like the caulk you used is a latex caulk. You can try soaking the track in rubbing alcohol, which can soften latex caulk, and won't harm the plastic ties.

If it's silicone caulk, there aren't many options for removal other than just sitting and peeling it off manually.

Mike,

Before you begin reinstalling track, I would recommend that you consider yellow carpenter's glue next time.  It holds really well and doesn't seem to loosen when flooding the ballast with wet water and adhesive.  Most importantly, it releases without much damage to the track and without leaving any residue on the track (see Ian MacMillan's thread, "Debonding Wood Glue Without Hurting Plastic," in this forum).

Hope this helps,

Yes I do believe the next round will use yellow glue to adhere the track and only use a few drops on the turnouts.

I'll try getting a small tub and using the rubbing alcohol.
