Tomytec Manufacturing Plant

I like to poke around Plaza Japan's ebay store and found this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Manufacturing-Plant-Tower-Tomytec-1-150-N-scale-/360391300725?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item53e8fed675

Combined with some things from Walthers and others, there is the basis for a credible looking petrochemical plant of some kind or another....

For the new layout I had been thinking of steel as the anchor industry, but this raises new possibilities. Anyone try any of these pieces yet?

I like some of the accessories they've got, such as the power transformers on the double poles and other such goodness.  I'm looking to get a few of those sorts of things to start accessorizing the paper mill.  I've started laying out the glass factory at Cumberland, which will also need a variety of storage bins, chemical tanks, and the like.

The scale is 1:150, but for these types of things, that's not a big deal.  In fact, it probably makes them a little more realistic, since many N scale details get put through the shrinky dink ray anyway.

I picked up the Tomytec cooling tower that you see in some of the pictures on that page.  Pretty nice looking kit in person, even the handrails are  fairly fine scale.  I'm using in on a pulp mill complex I am building.

I've just discovered the Plastruct line of industrial parts and the book that goes with them.  Very promising for scratch building particular industrial components, since there are few kits out there in n scale with these.  You can download the Plastruct catalog to look at.

Good information, thanks!

I'm not certain I would have use for the plant-tower in the link, but I agree the cooler looks very cool nice.  I don't really have a use for it either but it's very much like the ones I see around the area.

The over-road piping is what interests me and I'm gonna try and dig further to see if they have an over-rail version. (although, that one could probably be modified pretty easily...just seems a tad short for rail service)

It does look an awful lot like a fracking tower from a refinery to me.  Combine with the aforementioned Plastruct bits and pieces - especially their valves -  toss in a North Island Refinery, and you are golden.

I especially like the spherical tanks...   Don't recall them in N-scale before...

Plastruct had them in HO for a long time - and they were actually close to full size for N as I recall . . . .

Do like this facility.  I've got some old cigar containers - the silver metal type which could fit into this.  Just add piping to the various other tanks, etc and it would look like a typical refinery.
