15 cars, no wonder.  Thanks.

Oops, looks like 25 total.

Didn't Barnum & Bailey use X58's on their red train?

Loon!

Hey, you'll get no argument from me.

BTW, Monon used something similar too, but I'm not near my Monon book to see how similar. I think they some had single roof hatches (these were grain cars not the better known hatched cement cars). Considering the proxemic relationship between Monon and the PRR, there is a better chance these closely resemble X58s. Bryan, you could offer separate roof hatches through Shapeways. Then there were CGWs Exterior post cars... I need to get home to my library.

I correct myself, Monon has two less ribs than X58 and CGW also has two less ribs and a sliding door. With age comes the fog of mind... That, and I didn't eat my Wheaties.

As I stated - if there is another prototype that is very close to the X58, I would be interested in seeing what it is.  I know of one from a midwest road.  I would welcome others.

I'll need a handful to add to my interchange fleet.  Some lightly weathered PRR's and a freshly painted PC or two.

Looking forward to seeing this hit the streets.

I know the newsletter says it is part of the under frame and not possible as a separate part....

but I really wish this was available as a separate part:

Please?

Would this [Great Northern car] be close?

Art,

Your GN car (a fantastic find by the way at this late date) has 16 panels per side, while the X58 has 18 panels per side.  It could be fudged I guess, but the purists wouldn't like it.  I'll gladly take the photo for reference though - if the popularity of the model soars, it may be worth releasing this scheme anyway.  Send it to me at varnish@esmc.com, it will be forwarded to me from there.

Did I write that it was part of the underframe?  I should have written that it was part of the floor.  I know, having it as a separate piece would be nice.  But it wasn't possible to do and keep the structural integrity and keep the car at the proper height.  The load had to go through the beefy floor component rather than the delicate centerbeam component (from which it could have been cut off for use on other models).  Maybe someday.

The consolation is that it performs perfectly under load, including through 12½ radius S-curves.  I have to test with progressively smaller radii to see what the minimum actually is.

Art, Bryan -

I think FVM's Soo Line 7 post boxcars which incidentally are available in this scheme are a little closer.

Came across this beauty today - looks like she's stenciled X58:
