laying track on new shelf layout

today I have started the process of laying track before I actually start laying the track  the way I hope to do it is fit all the pieces trace the track on to the bench work. the benchwork surface is 2"foam painted an earth brown once all the track is down i'm going to trace the track with a sharpie marking switch points etc and then take up the track the, the track traced I will take a flat gray latex and paint all the track surface i'm doing this is once the paint dries i'm going to relay the track with all the rail joiners soldered and the spray the rails with the camouflage earth brown spray paint. i'm concerned about the spray paint eating the foam, so then clean the railtops and wait a day til every thing is dried then ballast, oh before I do any rail painting i'm going to wire it and test the track.
ok hopefully this made since any suggestions would be great thanks

Use water based paint it wont touch the foam. Also its easier to clean the rail tops once your laid the track.
